Sports and Theraputic Massage

Sports Massage

We’re thrilled to welcome George Syme, a highly experienced Sports Massage Therapist, to The Recovery Centre team.

George is a qualified Sports and Remedial Massage Therapist with a Level 6 Remedial Massage certification. He has gained practical experience through two years of clinics in Auckland and a range of sporting events, working with runners, dancers, rugby players, and other active clients. His work has involved supporting recovery from both recent and long-term injuries, improving athletic performance, and helping clients reduce their risk of future injury through focused soft-tissue treatment.

George’s practice is grounded in a testing-driven remedial approach. He uses postural assessment, range-of-motion testing, and functional movement analysis to identify the underlying causes of pain or dysfunction. This allows him to provide targeted, effective treatment that addresses not just symptoms but the contributing factors behind them.

He draws on a wide range of deep tissue, sports, and remedial massage techniques to manage pain, restore mobility, and support overall performance. His treatments aim to improve flexibility, circulation, and joint range, while also reducing muscle soreness and promoting faster recovery. By addressing soft-tissue restrictions and muscular imbalances, George helps clients develop healthier movement patterns and reduce the likelihood of overuse injuries.

George is committed to a client-centred, goal-focused approach. Every session is tailored to the individual, their needs, and the physical demands of their lifestyle or sport. He is passionate about helping clients move better, feel stronger, and perform at their best.

What Is Sports Massage?

Sports massage is a targeted therapy designed specifically for athletes and active individuals. Unlike general relaxation massage, this treatment addresses the physical demands of training and competition by improving circulation, reducing muscle tension, enhancing flexibility, and accelerating recovery.

Key Benefits

  • Improved Flexibility: Loosens tight muscles and improves joint range of motion to reduce injury risk.
  • Enhanced Performance: Boosts mitochondrial function for greater endurance and power output.
  • Reduced Muscle Soreness: Breaks down lactic acid to alleviate post-exercise discomfort and support faster recovery.
  • Injury Prevention: Identifies and treats imbalances before they develop into chronic issues.
  • Mental Clarity: Promotes deep relaxation and reduces stress to improve mental focus and overall well-being.

Who Can Benefit?

Sports massage isn’t just for professional athletes. Whether you’re a regular gym-goer, weekend warrior, or simply active in your daily life, this therapy can enhance your mobility, support recovery, and help prevent injuries.

A Holistic Approach to Performance

Jess combines deep anatomical knowledge with evidence-based techniques like myofascial release, stretching, and neuromuscular therapy. Every session is tailored to your goals—whether that’s better training recovery, injury management, or preparing for an event. Communication is key: sharing your current routine, injury history, and specific concerns helps deliver the best results.

Why Book Regularly?

Regular sessions keep muscles supple, reduce chronic tightness, and support optimal performance throughout your training cycle. When paired with good nutrition and training, sports massage becomes a powerful part of your wellness toolkit.
