Halotherapy

What is Halotherapy?

Halotherapy, or dry salt therapy, involves breathing in air infused with microscopic salt particles to support respiratory and skin health. At The Floatation Sanctuary, we use the HALO ONE® halotherapy generator by Clearlight, which disperses a fine mist of micronised saline particles (1–10 microns) into the air. These salt particles are inhaled deep into the lungs and also absorbed by the skin, delivering a natural therapy that is both relaxing and effective.

This treatment is offered as an optional add-on to your infrared sauna session (with sauna temperature capped at 60°C), or can be enjoyed as a standalone service. The process is entirely passive—you simply sit, breathe, and let the salt do its work.

Respiratory Benefits

Halotherapy is best known for its positive impact on the respiratory system. The salt’s antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties help cleanse the airways, reduce congestion, and support clearer breathing. It’s particularly helpful for those with conditions like asthma, bronchitis, sinusitis, hay fever, and general allergies.

By targeting bacteria, reducing inflammation, and loosening mucus, halotherapy can reduce the frequency of respiratory flare-ups and improve overall lung function. It may also offer relief for snoring and mild symptoms of sleep apnea by helping to open inflamed or congested airways.

Skin Health and Healing

Salt therapy also offers benefits for the skin. The anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects of halotherapy can improve conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and acne by reducing irritation, calming flare-ups, and clearing impurities from the skin. Regular sessions can leave your skin feeling cleaner, smoother, and more balanced.

Mental Wellness and Relaxation

Many clients report feeling calm and clear-headed after a halotherapy session. This may be due in part to the presence of negative ions in salt-rich air, which are believed to boost serotonin production and improve mood. Combined with the peaceful setting of the sauna or salt room, halotherapy offers a meditative, grounding experience that can reduce anxiety, stress, and tension.

A Simple, Powerful Add-On

Halotherapy is a gentle, natural therapy with a wide range of benefits. Whether you’re looking to ease respiratory symptoms, improve skin clarity, support mental well-being—or simply relax and recharge—it’s a valuable addition to your wellness routine.

You can book halotherapy as a standalone session or pair it with an infrared sauna for a deeply restorative experience. Have questions? Don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re here to help you breathe easier and feel better.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Halotherapy?

Halotherapy, or salt therapy, involves breathing in air filled with microscopic salt particles that are dispersed into the room using a halogenerator. At The Floatation Sanctuary, we use the HALO ONE® by Clearlight to deliver this therapy in our infrared sauna or as a standalone service.

How does Halotherapy work?

The halogenerator micronises pharmaceutical-grade salt into fine particles (1–10 microns), which are then inhaled into the respiratory system and absorbed through the skin. These particles have antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and mucolytic properties that help cleanse the airways and support skin health.

What are the benefits of Halotherapy?

Halotherapy may improve respiratory conditions such as asthma, bronchitis, sinusitis, hay fever, and allergies. It can also support clearer skin, reduce inflammation, and promote better breathing, sleep quality, and relaxation. Many users also report feeling calmer and more mentally balanced after sessions.

Is Halotherapy safe?

Yes, halotherapy is generally safe for most people. It is drug-free, non-invasive, and well-tolerated. However, individuals with severe respiratory conditions, active infections, or serious medical issues should consult their doctor before use.

Who should avoid Halotherapy?

Those with contagious illnesses, severe hypertension, open wounds, or who are in active stages of cancer treatment should avoid halotherapy. Pregnant women and children should consult with a healthcare provider before participating.

Can children use Halotherapy?

Halotherapy may be suitable for children, especially for respiratory support, but we recommend parental supervision and medical advice before starting sessions for anyone under 16 years of age.

What should I wear during a session?

Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Halotherapy is a dry treatment, so no special attire is required. If you’re combining it with an infrared sauna, swimwear or a towel wrap is suitable.

How long is a session?

Halotherapy sessions typically last 20–30 minutes. When booked with the infrared sauna, the duration will match your sauna session with salt therapy running throughout.

How often should I use Halotherapy?

For respiratory or skin conditions, 2–3 sessions per week are often recommended for noticeable results. For general wellness or maintenance, once weekly may be sufficient.

Can I combine Halotherapy with other treatments?

Yes! Halotherapy pairs beautifully with infrared sauna sessions and other wellness services. The combined effects can enhance detoxification, relaxation, and recovery.
